I’ve been admiring Native American Maine basket for years at the Common Ground Fair and the Heard Museum, and when I ran across Deborah Gabriel Brooks’ website for Sweetgrass Basketry, I knew I’d found my basket. I ordered the last basket available at the time. Its quiet elegance gives me pleasure every time I see it. The quality of the craftsmanship is readily apparent throughout the basket, from the ash base to the braided handle. I feel very lucky to have such a thing of beauty in my home and expect my children and grandchildren will treasure it long after I’m gone.

I was so happy to help you design and create the perfect basket for gifting, and it was a sincere pleasure working with you as a co-creator of your lovely heirloom Passamaquoddy basket. You were very much a part of its creation and the love you have for our culture is woven into the very strands of the braiding and the weaving. Reading the book, Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer, made me not only aware of the ancient knowledge of the indigenous people, but also their love of nature and basketmaking skills. Once I found Deborah Gabriel Brooks, I sensed that I had found the perfect person to create a basket for me. From the day I contacted her, she stayed in touch with me till I had received the final product. She always wrote back very quickly, was there to guide me with colors, materials and size of the basket. The Trinket Basket is absolutely beautiful, and my friend who received this special gift, will love and cherish this quality Passamaquoddy basket forever. It was pure joy to work with Deborah, and having been able to work with this authentic Wabanaki weaver has enriched my life.
